This morning, in Blumenau (SC), the Intellectual Property Defense Committee of ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies) received the Gold Award in the Economic Axis category for its work with the initiative Legal Entrepreneur<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, which deals with awareness of the use of original software in all segments of the Brazilian economy. This is the third time that the entity is recognized with this award promoted by the National Council for Combating Piracy and Offenses Against Intellectual Property (CNCP), linked to the Ministry of Justice. The distinction was part of the National Piracy Combat Award 2015.

\n\u201cWe are very happy for this recognition. The role of ABES and our partners is to help raise the awareness of entrepreneurs, showing that a legal company can be an instrument of productivity and risk reduction in operations, as well as a local and international competitive differential increasingly demanded by consumers, society and export markets, \u201dsays Jorge Sukarie, president of ABES.

\nFor the entity, software piracy works against sustainable economic growth and the country's prosperity. \u201cThe company that uses computer programs without the correct licensing can face great risks to its business. In addition to having his image linked to illegal activity, he can respond criminally with a penalty, which can vary from six months to two years, or be fined with amounts that reach three thousand times the price of each program used or reproduced \u201d, he points out. \nAnother risk is related to cybercrime. According to the Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) study, Verizon, 2015, every second, a company becomes a victim of cybercrime. \u201cOne of the main channels that criminals use to access networks is through pirated or unlicensed software,\u201d explains Sukarie.

\nLegal Entrepreneur<\/u><\/strong>
\n 
\nCreated in 2013, the Legal Entrepreneur initiative aims to encourage fair competition between companies, alerting Brazilian businessmen about the competitive advantages of having the correct licensing of their technological environments, alerting to the legal risks in case of non-compliance and information on how to implement a management most effective use of software assets.
\n 
\nAmong the latest actions developed is the production and dissemination of the Software Asset Management Manual<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. Interactive, the guide provides information on the laws that govern the legal use of computer programs, avoiding fines and penalties, financial losses and exposure to cyber crimes, in addition to the practice of unfair competition. The Manual offers information on software piracy modalities, legal principles and market overview on the situation of piracy in Brazil. With it, companies are able to identify unauthorized software installations and which licenses have not been used. In addition to proving ownership of the licenses acquired and ensuring the proper use of assets within the company.
