The action takes place at a relevant time for the country, as the National Congress is advancing in the discussion of a general law that will regulate the matter to give legal guarantees to the privacy of citizens, the growing relevance of data for economic and social development being unquestionable. and the impacts of the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR \u2013 General Data Protection Regulation) in the European Union, which took place on May 25, 2018.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\t<em>\u201cWe have learned from international experience that the vast majority of countries that have general personal data protection laws have only managed to effectively enforce these laws to the extent that they have established a Personal Data Protection Authority or a Privacy Commissioner,\u201d reads an excerpt. of the open letter.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/em><br \/>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n\tOn the functioning of this authority,<em> the manifesto advocates \u201cthe creation of a functionally independent Personal Data Protection Authority for Brazil. Given the importance of the topic, it is essential that there is no subordination of the regulatory body to the direct or indirect public administration.
